DCC HELPS EIA WIN FIVE AWARDS, INCLUDING COMPETITION’S TOP HONOUR AT THE 2009 AIRPORTS COUNCIL INTERNATIONAL NORTH AMERICA (ACI-NA) AWARDS.
(Edmonton, Alberta, August 2009) – Seven awards and the competition’s top marketing honour went to Donovan Creative’s client the Edmonton International Airport (EIA) at the 2009 Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) Excellence in Marketing and Communications Awards.
Donovan Creative helped EIA win five of the seven total awards, including the contest’s top honour, the Peggy G. Hereford Award, for Overall Excellence in Marketing and Communications for the second consecutive year.
There has only ever been one other airport in the history of the awards who has won this top honour back to back; this was the Phoenix International Airport ten years ago.
In addition to the Hereford award, EIA took honours in seven categories, with four first place finishes including a big win for the very popular ‘Language of Speed’ destination marketing campaign.
Work developed by Donovan Creative was recognized in five categories, including first place finishes in Marketing Campaigns for their ‘Language of Speed’ campaign; Brochures; and Print Advertising: Black & White. DCC’s work also won second place in Annual Reports, and second place in Creative Innovations: Technology, for their interactive campaign to grow awareness of passenger and cargo services.
EIA has been a Donovan Creative client for the past three years.
“We couldn’t be happier to have our work recognized through these prizes,” said Michael Donovan, President and Creative Director of Donovan Creative Communications. “That only one other airport has ever won the Peggy Hereford back to back, and that was a decade ago, really speaks to the quality of brand and marketing programs we’re developing in Edmonton. This is a competition that is North American wide, so were really happy for our international airport to be recognized above some of the world’s biggest airports, including Miami, Chicago, LA, New York and others. I hope this helps draw attention to our airport and the excellence we’re striving for every day.
“Bringing home the industry’s highest honour two years in a row is a rare achievement. Our team is elated. We’re extremely proud of this shared victory.” This year, 62 airports and airport authorities from The United States and Canada submitted 300 entries in over 20 categories ranging from brochures, advertising, marketing and public relations campaigns, newsletters, special events, video and film productions, and websites.
The Peggy G. Hereford Award is recognized throughout the airport industry as the highest honor an airport can earn in the marketing and communications field.
This year’s win builds on past ACI-NA awards successes in 2007 and 2008, which have honoured the EIA brand, as well as ongoing marketing and communications programs. In 2008, DCC helped EIA win three of five awards, plus the Peggy G. Hereford Award. In 2007, DCC helped win in the Partnering with Carriers category.
Donovan Creative’s work with Edmonton International Airport has included architecting their brand in 2007-08 through developing all of the major marketing and communications outreach programs to date that touch all aspects of EIA’s business, including destination marketing, passenger development, community relations, air service development, parking, in-terminal services, and cargo.
